Presented by Shawn MacIntyre, Public Engagement and Operations Manager at Braddock’s Battlefield History Center
July 9th, 1755, the British Army marched, along with soldiers, workmen, teamsters, slaves, camp follower women and their children. Their plan was to construct a road to the French, Fort Duquesne, lay siege to the fort and return the forks of the Ohio to British control. The French Commander at Fort Duquesne and his Native Allies had a very different plan for the British Forces. The Battle of the Monongahela is a battle that changed world history and led to the first global war. We will discuss the lead up to the battle, the battle itself, and the effect it has on history.
