When Justice Became a Weapon...

Jennifer Hess will be at the Bethel Park Public Library to discuss her non-fiction book Credit for the Bust.

From book jacket: Have you ever heard somebody say "I would never plead guilty to doing something that I didn't do"?  Anyone that has ever said these words has never been at the center of an investigation driven by an overly aggressive prosecutor with a politically driven agenda.  My name is Jennifer Hess and I love the United States of America, but I no longer trust my own government.

I wrote this book because my recent experiences have revealed to me that our federal justice system is in trouble.

I believe the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) has allowed itself to become a means to an end rather than an agency in the pursuit of justice.  It is important to me to share my story not only for myself, but in the hope it may enact change.

Some people say you can't judge a book by its cover.  Unfortunately when people hear buprenorphine (Suboxone) treatment, they immediately judge doctors that prescribe it and the programs that support the patients.

I became aware of the opioid epidemic in 2008.  My purpose and life became devoted to treating and supporting people who had fallen into the cycle of opiate abuse.  Government agencies judged my program by its cover, layered in bias and ignorance, then went to battle with the people providing treatment while ignoring the real crisis.

THIS IS MY STORY.
